On September, 27, the KPI hosted the XVII International Scientific and Practical Conference “Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in the 21st Century”.
The organizers of the conference are the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”, the Office of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Kyiv, the Renewable Energy Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation of Ukraine, the Institute of Renewable Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Polish Center for the Development of Technologies for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, Ukrainian-Polish Center of the KPI etc.
The support of the forum was provided by the UNIDO / GEF project “Improving energy efficiency and stimulating the use of renewable energy in agro-food and other small and medium enterprises (SMEs) of Ukraine”, the subsidiary of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Kyiv, Wartsila Corporation, ENERGY DEVELOPMENT UKRAINE, ATLAS GLOBAL ENERGY ATLAS CAPITAL ENERGY.
More than 200 scientists, postgraduates, students, representatives of business structures, state authorities have taken part in the conference. Ukraine, Poland, Germany, China, Finland, Azerbaijan, Turkey were among the participants. About 130 reports were sent to the conference, a collection of abstracts of participants’ reports was published.
The greeting speeches to the participants were announced by the first vice-rector of the KPI, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Yuriy Yakimenko, Director of the Office of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Kyiv Henrik Sobchuk, Academician-Secretary of the Department of Physical and Technical Problems of Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Oleksandr Kyrylenko, Second Secretary of the Polish Embassy Jan Kalinovsky, Advisor to the Head of the State Department of Energy Efficiency Konstantin Gur.
The first plenary session started with the report of the Director of the Institute of Renewable Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Director of the ISTC Wind Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Head of the Department of Renewable Energy of the KPI, Professor Stepan Kudrya, “Strategy of the Development of Renewable Energy Sources”. On the first day of the conference the participants also listened to the reports “The transition of Ukraine to renewable energy sources up to 2050: why and how to achieve it” (Alexander Dyachuk, Institute of Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine), “International Experience of Simultaneous Implementation of Renewable Energy and Electricity Markets” (Igor Petryk, Sales Director of Wartsila Energy Solutions, Finland), “Prospects for R& D and Energy Efficiency in Ukraine via Attraction of the Best Practices of International Partners” (Olga Buslavets, Department of Electricity of the Ministry of Energy and Mining Industry) etc..
In scopes of the conference agenda there was an exhibition on the territory of the university between the buildings number 1 and number 6 – presentation of samples of modern equipment for use in renewable energy technologies from domestic producers.
The conference will work for 3 days. On the last day of work, September 29, a meeting of its youth section will take place.
