On May 12, 1954, Ukraine joined UNESCO, opening a new chapter in cooperation for the protection and development of culture, education, and science. In this context, UNESCO played a significant role in the reconstruction of schools, libraries, and museums destroyed during the Second World War, and facilitated the exchange of ideas and scientific knowledge.

Ukraine actively engaged in the organization’s work by signing approximately 15 international conventions adopted by UNESCO, addressing copyright, the protection of cultural heritage, combating discrimination in education, and other important aspects.

The Ukrainian initiative in developing various UNESCO programs and initiatives, such as the “Culture of Peace Program” and campaigns against illiteracy, is reflected in joint efforts with other countries aimed at strengthening peace and supporting cultural heritage.

Together with UNESCO, Ukraine established 82 schools, 11 specialized departments, and over 50 clubs, contributing to the development of education and culture in various regions of the country.

Ukraine’s participation in UNESCO offers wide opportunities for collaborative work on important tasks such as preserving cultural diversity, supporting education, and scientific research. This contributes to the active development of Ukraine and upholds common values on the international stage.
